Big Changes to Expect from the Second Phase of 2021
Indian Premier League is all set to commence its second phase from September 19. After being postponed in May due to the rise in Covid cases, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to host the remaining matches in the UAE. Due to changes in the venue and schedule, cricket fans can expect various disruptions in the team combination, strategy and action plan. All franchises will make major reshuffles to give fans the best cricketing experience. Due to the unavailability of certain players, there is a lot of anticipation around them.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB made quite a few changes in their line-up due to the absence of their overseas players. RCB signed Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, Tim David, Dushara Chameera, George Gartan and Akash Deep to replace Adam Zampa, Finn Allen, Daniel Sams, Kane Richardson and Washington Sundar. Finn Allen is the first player from Singapore to play in the Indian Premier League. He has featured in the BBL and recently played an essential role in the Surrey team. A finisher like him will play an important role down the order.
The Jaipur based franchise signed the New Zealand keeper-batsman Glenn Phillips and Evin Lewis for the second leg of the IPL 2021. With his terrific form in recent times, Phillips will establish himself as a game-changer for Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Elvis is an excellent opener for West Indies in the shorter format. With Phillips and Lewis in the squad, it will be interesting to see how they replace Jos Butler and solve their top-order woes.
Along with Glenn Phillips and Lewis, Rajasthan also called the No.1 ranked T20I bowler Tabraiz Shamsi to their side. He is included in the team as a replacement for Australia’s Andrew Tye in the Royals’ squad. His previous experience in the Indian Premier for the Royal Challengers Bangalore will boost the Royals bowling attack.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Tim Southee is called to the squad to replace Pat Cummins. Kolkata would like to change its fortune in the UAE.
Punjab brought in Nathan Ellis and Adil Rashid in place of Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith. It’s going to be a tough stint for Punjab to reach the playoffs.
However, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Chennai haven’t made any changes as their players are available for the second phase.
